Athletes in Action Baseball has a long history of competing in Alaska after playing its preseason games in California. In 2001 AIA joined the Alaska Baseball League, and made its home in Fairbanks, Alaska which is located seven hours north of Anchorage. Fairbanks also plays host to the Goldpanners of the ABL. The league provides talent and competition that is hard to top in collegiate summer baseball. A long line of current and former Major League players are have journeyed through the Alaska Baseball League during their college years. Athletes in Action Baseball is proud to have one of its franchises in the Alaska Baseball League.

2006 Manager: Phil Plantier (MLB)


  Phil Plantier #7

Title: Head Coach Bio: Former Major League slugger, Phil Plantier joins the Point Loma Nazarene staff in 2006. His responsibilities include working as the Sea Lions' hitting coach, outfield coach and first base coach.

Plantier spent 11 years as a professional baseball player, including parts of eight seasons in the Major Leagues (1990-97). His most productive year was in 1993 as a member of the San Diego Padres, when he clubbed 34 homeruns and collected 100 RBIs.    An 11th round draft pick in 1987 by the Boston Red Sox, Plantier was selected as the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year in 1990 when he hit 33 homeruns in 409 at-bats in AAA Pawtucket. He was called up to the Red Sox in August of 1990.   Since retiring from baseball, Plantier earned a B.A in social science from California State University San Marcos and is currently pursuing a post-graduate degree. He has worked with youngsters in the San Diego area for past seven years, most recently coaching the Poway Mustangs to a 13-Under Triple Crown National Baseball Championship.

Phil is married to Jennifer and is the proud father of three children: Ryan, Tyler and Emily. The Plantiers live in Poway, just north of San Diego.


Chris Beck (2006)

Title: Pitching Coach Bio: Chris, a Southern California native, attended the Master's College, where he led the nation in strikeouts and was drafted in 1994. He played five years for the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs.

Chris and his wife Danielle have been with AIA Baseball since 1999. Chris and Danielle have three sons, Ryan, Jackson and Ty. On staff Chris is responsible for the team playing in the Alaska League (Alaska Fire.)
