Remembering Veterans - "Paul Burchett wrote about serving as
a civilian with the Cold Weather Test Detachment, a secret
operation in Alaska established after the Japanese occupied
southern Alaska in World War II. The group was stationed in
Fairbanks, Alaska, and tested the cold-weather abilities of 34
new military aircraft, including B-17s, A-20s and fighters such
as P-38s. "

Army activates space defense battalion at Greeley - ARMY Release "The battalion will provide operational control and security over ground-based interceptors located in Alaska to protect the nation from limited ballistic missile attacks.
